HOME & LIVING SOLUTIONS

Microbes that care for the corners you never see

From toilets and septic tanks to kitchen grease traps, Biontech brings the Bacillus technology behind its agricultural products into homes and commercial spaces, breaking down odour and grease at their source.

THREE EVERYDAY PLACES

Three everyday places

Find the right product by where the problem starts. Each one is built on live Bacillus, which keeps producing the enzymes that break waste down.

Strong acids, alkalis and bleach can mask odour for a while, but they also kill the microbes that do the breaking down. Sludge builds up and the smell soon returns. BionClo does the opposite and adds highly active beneficial bacteria: four Bacillus strains that suppress the sulfate-reducing bacteria that produce hydrogen sulfide, take up ammonia, and use protease, lipase, cellulase and amylase to break down sludge before it blocks pipes.

02 · Kitchens and grease traps

BionRio grease-trap fat breakdown

The bacteria find and attach to grease, secrete lipase that splits it into fatty acids and glycerol, take those up as food, and convert them into carbon dioxide, water and biomass, so the grease layer stops building up. Suited to restaurants and home kitchens.

Biontech tested its own strains against lard and palm oil and built the formula on strains that break down both animal and vegetable fats well.

Directions (powder)

  1. Use the scoop provided to pour the powder straight into the grease trap and stir lightly, or mix it 1:10 with water first.
  2. Add it at the end of each business day, once the kitchen has stopped draining, so the bacteria can establish in the trap. It can also be poured into drains for routine care.
Use Start-up (first two weeks) Maintenance
Home kitchen drain Twice a week, 1 scoop (20 g) each time1 scoop (20 g) a week
Small to medium grease trapUp to about 500 litres 40–60 g a day60–80 g a week
Large grease trap or central kitchenOver 500 litres Scale up with capacity, adding one small-to-medium dose for every further 500 litres; our sales team can help you assess

Dilute with room-temperature water, never above 50°C. Strong acids, alkalis, bleach and disinfectants kill the bacteria; use a neutral cleaner instead.

03 · Rooms and everyday odours

BionClean probiotic deodorizing spray

Two actions in one: a soy-derived cationic surfactant captures odour molecules in the air for immediate relief, while spores of Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus velezensis settle on surfaces, germinate and secrete enzymes that break down the source, so new odours do not form. It removes odour rather than covering it with fragrance.

In a laboratory test with onion and garlic odours, odour strength after spraying was about 43% lower than the untreated control after 15 minutes, and about 50% lower after 30 minutes.

For
Sofas, cat litter, places where dogs relieve themselves, and toilet odours after use; also bins, carpets, curtains and car interiors

HOW IT WORKS

How Bacillus works

  1. Dormant spores

Bacillus is kept as hardy spores, so it is easy to ship and store.

  2. Germination

In a moist environment with nutrients, the spores germinate into active cells.

  3. Breakdown

The cells produce protease, lipase, cellulase and other enzymes that break down organic matter and grease.
