Toilets and septic tanks

BionClo series

Give the septic tank back its own power to break waste down

BionClo is Biontech's Bacillus range for toilets and septic tanks. All three formats are built on Bacillus strains selected by Biontech; what differs is where they go: soluble pouches into the toilet, powder into the septic tank cleanout, tablets in the urinal. Once in the pipes and the tank, the bacteria keep secreting enzymes that break down sludge and cut odour at the source.

WHY CHEMICALS FAIL

Why does the smell come back after cleaning?

Strong acids, alkalis and bleach kill bacteria and suppress odour at once, but only as a temporary chemical mask. With the decomposing microbes wiped out too, the septic tank loses its ability to break waste down, sludge builds up, and within days the odour returns stronger.

  1. The septic tank starts to smell
  2. Chemical cleaners kill bacteria and mask the odour for a while
  3. The microbes that break waste down are wiped out too
  4. Sludge builds up and the odour comes back, starting the cycle again

HOW IT WORKS

Put the beneficial bacteria back and decomposition restarts

BionClo does the opposite and adds beneficial bacteria. The Bacillus germinates in the septic tank and drain pipes and adjusts its enzyme output to its surroundings, coping with the changing conditions in a septic tank better than any single enzyme. The mutually supporting strains compete with the anaerobic bacteria that cause odour and speed up the breakdown of organic matter.

  1. Suppress sulfate-reducing bacteria, cutting hydrogen sulfide (H₂S)
  2. Take up ammonia (NH₃/NH₄⁺)
  3. Break down sludge with protease, lipase, cellulase and amylase before it blocks pipes

ENZYME ACTIVITY

Breakdown you can see: Biontech enzyme plate tests

These are enzyme plate tests from Biontech's own laboratory. Bacteria are spotted onto growth media containing one particular substance. The clear zone that forms around the colony is where the enzymes they secrete have broken that substance down; the wider the zone, the stronger the breakdown.

Septic sludge is mostly starch, fat, fibre and protein. The Bacillus in the BionClo series secretes protease, lipase, cellulase and amylase, so it works on all of them at once.
